Action Alert: Contact Your Representatives

Miami Air Pilots, ACTION ALERT: We are asking as many employees as possible to CALL your elected representatives TODAY. In late March, the CARES Act was signed into law, offering up to $25 billion in payroll assistance to airlines on the condition that workers not be furloughed or laid off until after September 30, 2020. On April 3, Miami Air filed an application for payroll support with the Department of Treasury. The Treasury has NOT responded to that application. In the meantime, COVID-19 has disrupted Miami Air’s business forcing it to consider closing its doors forever. If the Treasury grants Miami Air payroll support, it may serve as a lifeline to the carrier allowing it to survive – saving our jobs, income and benefits in the process. Please CALL your representatives TODAY and let them know how important this payroll support is to Miami Air and its 350 employees. We have provided below the state and federal representatives for the district in which Miami Air is headquartered. We recommend that you call AND email each of them. We also have included a script that you can follow during your call. We encourage you to be brief and professional, but time permitting, personalize the script to reflect your own experience. Click here for a printable PDF that includes the following script and congressional contact information. Suggested Script: I am airline pilot who works for Miami Air International, a charter airline based at the Miami International Airport. For 30 years, we have performed charter flights for various high-profile customers and the U.S. military. But my airline has been hard hit by COVID-19 and its employees need your help. Miami Air has applied for payroll support provided by the federal CARES Act. But the Department of Treasury has not responded to its application. Without a response, my company is considering closing its doors forever. This will result in 350 employees – most living in southeast Florida – losing their jobs, income and benefits – including myself. Please encourage the Treasury Department to immediately release payroll support to Miami Air International and save my job and the jobs of my 350 co-workers!
